The Holy Name of Jesus

Dearest Ones,

What do you know about the name of Jesus? Most of us know very little. When you pronounce the name of Jesus we know little of the treasures hidden in it. It is a mine of riches; the secret of the greatest happiness that one can hope to enjoy on this earth. It consoles the saddest heart and makes the weakest sinner strong Get in the habit of saying it hundreds and hundreds of times every day. It will give great joy! The name of Jesus is the shortest, the easiest and the most powerful of prayers. Everyone can say it, even in the midst of his daily work. Let's use the name of Jesus, asking Him to save us from he dangers that threaten us. Everyone can invoke this holy name hundreds of times a day, not only for his own intentions, but also to ask God to deliver the world from ruin. St. Paul tells us that we must do all we do, whether in word or work, in the name of Jesus. "All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ..." (Col. 3:17). Each time we say, "Jesus," we help the souls in Purgatory, relieving them from their awful pains. Then they become our best friends and pray for us until we reach heaven. St. Gregory of Tours tells that when he was a little boy his father lay dying and he prayed fervently for his recovery. When Gregory was asleep at night, his Guardian Angel appeared to him and told him to write the name of Jesus on a card and place this under the sick man's pillow. He did so, and placed the card under his father's head, when, to the joy of the whole family, the patient grew rapidly better. Cards with the holy name on them are recommended to be put on the doors of our rooms, under our pillows and in our purses or billfolds. The saints did wonderful works in the name of Jesus. Many saints spent their last days repeating constantly, "Jesus, Jesus." They worked miracles, cast out devils, cured the sick and gave comfort to everyone, using the hame of Jesus. St. Peter and the Apostles converted the world with this all powerful name. Those who repeat the name of Jesus can obtain every favor and every grace. Who can be so foolish as not to acquire the habit of repeating, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus?" It is a remedy for every evil. Few of us have any idea of this great mystery, and yet it is the greatest proof that God has given, or could give us, of His personal love for us. What more could He do? It is everything to us. In saying the name of Jesus, we unite ourselves to all the Masses of the world - we offer Jesus for the sins of the world and our own country in particular. The angels are our dearest friends and it is sad that many Catholics do not ask the angels for help. The easiest way to do so is to say the name of Jesus in their honor. This gives them the greatest joy. In return they will help us in all our troubles. Do you wish to give joy to God? Then thank Him for giving us Jesus.
