"Get over it!"

Dearest Ones,

There are some things you can control in life - your choice of job, who your friends are, what you do for fun. There are others you can't - what other people say and do, the flat tire. How you react to the things you can't control determines your state of happiness. People who regularly get upset over small things suffer in many ways. People who shrug them off do a lot better. The Bible calls it "casting all your cares on Him" and some just say "Get over it! I just found out that March 9 is the official "Get Over It" Day in the US! It is half way between Valentine's Day and April Fools Day.

Life happens. God works in mysterious ways - throwing a tantrum doesn't help. If you trust Him to work things out, you'll get over the bumps of life. If you do what you can, but don't get upset about what is beyond your control, pray and God will do the rest! I heard about a man in Chicago, who was unjustly imprisoned for 18 years. Finally, after DNA testing proved him innocent he was released this year. He is neither angry nor bitter. Instead, he is grateful to be found innocent. When asked how he could remain happy and content after such an injustice, he said his faith had helped him to believe that some day he would be proved innocent.

There's a little bit of bitterness in most of us - maybe because of something that happened years ago. Some people get offended at God and stay that way. Everybody goes through stuff. We either go under or go on. Trust Him.

It's not a question of if something bad will happen but when. We should all make sure we are ready WHEN it happens. In hard times we get closer to God. "When angry, do not sin; do not even let your anger last until the sun goes down." (Eph 4:26) Why is it important to let go of anger before bedtime. If we're mad before we go to sleep, then we're mad in the morning. Then, we may remain angry all day long. Why is it so bad to go to bed angry? Because if we're angry when we sleep, what we're angry about has time to get a hold on us and really deep. "Leave no room for a foothold for the devil." (Eph 4:27) If we don't "get over it" before bedtime, it opens a door to the devil. When we complain about our current situation, we remain in it; when we praise God in the midst of it, He raises us out of it.

The best way to start every day is with gratitude and thanksgiving. Get a jump on the devil! God makes arrangements for us to have a fresh start every day, but we must get over the past and go on.

Whenever I find myself in a situation I can't do anything about, I try to remember to say to myself, Get over it. It's the same as casting my cares upon the Lord. What's the big deal if you lose an argument? Some things just aren't worth getting upset about, yet many people do. A large number of Christians are upset and full of anxiety most of the time. It is not the big things that get to them, it is the little things that don't fit into their plans. Instead of casting their cares on the Lord and saying, Get over it, they are always trying to do something about something they can't do anything about. On more than one occasion, that little phrase Get over it has really helped me to make it through.

How many times have you had a problem with someone and think you have settled it, but the other person keeps bring it up? Jesus is telling us to Let it go. Drop it, leave it, stop talking about it.

We may think, If I'm mad, what should I do about it? Get over it! You may say, That's easy for you to say, but you are not in my situation. If you are going to live a joyful life, you have to do so by choice, not by feeling.

We can refuse to give in to anger. Learn to deal with it. If you are spending way too much time trying to figure out God, Get over it. Use sticky notes or write it on your heart.

Just fall in love with God!
Sister Francelle
